According to an article on LATimes.com the St. Louis Cardinals have been given until Wednesday to sign a deal with Albert Pujols. If the Cardinals miss this deadline they will have to wait until after the season to try to reach a deal with him. Pujols has been with the Cardinals for ten years and is now 31 years old. Last season he had 42 home runs and 118 RBI’s. Pujols is asking for a contract along the lines of 10 years for 275 million.
It is no doubt that Albert Pujols is an amazing baseball player not only offensively but a great first baseman. But if the Cardinals were to sign him for ten years, that means that he will be 41 years old by the time the contract is up. Usually baseball players are not up to their full potential by that age in life.
I think that it would be good if the Cardinals and Pujols could make a five year agreement for a little bit more money each year. He not only is a star in the community for his great athletic ability but for his role model like behavior as well. Albert is involved in many good causes and charitable organizations around the St. Louis area and brings positive news to St. Louis. He would be missed terribly by cardinal fans in St. Louis.
