Title: The End Is Near
The last few weeks are always the toughest for me! By the time April gets here and professors are cramming in more assignments, projects, papers and test my brain just wants to shut down. Hopefully these tips will help as well as all the rain we have been having will force me to stay inside and study!
But in all reality, our professors are just preparing us for the real world. While it is unfortunate to admit, college and school days are becoming numbered for me. Once I graduate next May, I will be getting a real job, with real hours, and no summer breaks to look forward to! But I think that it will be worth it to have regular hours and not late nights of studying for tests or doing assignments.
While a lot of us moan and complain about these last few weeks of the semester, we just need to keep a positive focus and attitude. Realizing the teachers are not doing this to torture us but to prepare us for what is ahead. I think they are doing a great job at giving us doses of reality!
Facebook Apologizes For Removing Homosexual Smooch Photo
Facebook, the popular social networking site, has recently been in the hot seat for the removal of a photo. The photo was of two men kissing and was on a page protesting an act of discrimination in London. After Facebook got the negative responses from users, the picture shortly was placed back up on the social networking site.
Why did they even feel the right to remove it in the first place? The statement released from facebook for reasoning of why the photo was removed read “Shares that contain nudity, or any kind of graphic or sexually suggestive content, are not permitted on Facebook.” After they had realized what an uproar the removal of the photo had made and they put it back on the page they released a statement explaining the removal was just an “error”
“The photo in question does not violate our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and was removed in error.”
Although they quickly fixed the mistake, it did not go unnoticed by users. I am glad that they realized that they needed to rethink their decision of removal of the photo, but I think a lot of people are still speculating that it was done because someone had a problem with the contents of that photo. I have seen a lot of pictures of a man and a woman kissing on facebook and those do not seem to get removed based on policies? They seemed to have clear the air with this mistake but this time they were lucky. If something would not have been done, I am sure their user number would have dropped significantly.

Jersey Shore Cast Making Six-Figures For Next Season
April 11, 2011
Although I am a huge Jersey Shore fan, I do think that their pay rate is a little bit outrageous. While filming the show takes time out of their ordinary every day life, it is a job many people that age would enjoy doing. To get paid all they have to do is go out, have fun, have drinks, and have their summers taped. I would take that job any day.
This show has been a huge success and has given viewers some new lingo to catch on to. While their lives are hilarious, I wonder if down the road they will look back at some of the episodes and be embarrassed or if they will just laugh about it? I also wonder how their actions on the show will affect their career oppprtunities after the show? They might be famous now while the show is hot but what about after the Jersey Shore phase ends? With a crazy lifestyle like the one it shows on the series I dont know what kind of professional career they will have after their fame has ended? Also, I do not know if going out all night and having a job at local stores should earn them a six figure pay check. Despite my jealousy towards the cast I do think that they have been quite entertaining and I always seem to be anxious for the next season to air. I can not wait to see what will go on when they are in Italy.
Do You Know Your Reach On Social Media
As we have been told all semester in class it is important to know the reach you have with you social media tools. Once you put something out there it is out there for everyone to see if you are not careful. We have been constantly reminded to be careful with what we put into our blogs and twitter accounts and it is important to remember this as we move out of our college years and into the professional world.
On the website PR in your pajamas, Natalie Sisson, a senior associate at Cross Borders Communications, shares some tools on managing and tracking your social media involvement. The article explains that you need to be aware of the influence your social media activity has. It is essential to track and analyze your social media activity in order to help build valuable relationships.
One easy way to do this are to use PostRank, a free tool that allows you to see how your content is being received. I think that PostRank is a very useful tool that I did not know about before reading this article.
Now that I have a free tool that I can use I believe that I will be getting a PostRank account and using it immediately. It is so important to me to have a good online presence since I will be graduating in May 2012 which seems to be right around the corner. I am glad this class has taught me how social media can affect my chances of landing the jobs I want in the near future.

Branded For Life
April 4, 2011
I think that this is so desperate on Ecko’s part. I work in the fashion industry and while I LOVE my BCBG and brand names, I would never get a permanent tattoo on my body to get 20% off. If the brand did go out of business and you were stuck with it for life, how would you explain it to your children that you did it to get a quick deal?
I would rather not get 20% off and just stick to not having it on my body. I know the economy is bad and there are not as many shoppers out there these days, but come on, bribing your customers by getting something they will have to live with the rest of their life? I would not participate in this in a heart beat. Please think before you ink!
It has been all over the news about Southwest Airlines recent incident. According to the Dallas Morning News website, on Friday April 1, 2011 a 5 foot long hole opened up in the roof of the Southwest Airlines plane soon after takeoff from Phoenix. This caused a lost of pressure and caused pilots to make an emergency landing in Yuma, Arizona. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. Although this may hurt peoples travel plans since they might get a new sense of fear to flying due to the unfortunate circumstances.
I have Southwest flight plans in May and now I am a little hesitant of the flights as I am sure many other customers are.
After the midair incident, Southwest grounded nearly 80 Boeing 737-300s for inspections. Monday evening 64 were returned to flights but 3 had cracks similar to the ones like Friday’s incident.
The FAA is taking actions in the right direction to make safety inspections more thorough. However, Southwest Airlines was fast to shift the blame to Boeing because it was their aircraft. While Boeing should take responsibility for their aircraft, it does have the name Southwest all over it so they need to take on some responsibility.
I think to get customers back, Southwest needs to offer some pretty good deals for summer travels. They need to make a plan for this disaster and figure out all they can do to help. Otherwise people may not be apt to fly in their hands again, I know that I am a little worried about my future vacation now. What do you think?
